Dr. Giulia Muraca and Dr. Rohan D’Souza receive $436,000 from CIHR for pregnancy research
Two McMaster pregnancy research projects have received a total of $436,000 in funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) in the Fall 2022 Project Grant Competition.
Dr. Giulia Muraca (Nominated Principal Investigator), assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Dr. Rohan D’Souza (Principal Investigator), associate professor in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact received $336,000 to lead a study focused on advancing equity in maternal and perinatal care in Canada. The study will investigate racial and ethnic disparities in severe maternal morbidity (SMM) and severe perinatal morbidity and mortality (SPMM).
Dr. D’Souza and Dr. Muraca also received $100,000 to lead a study alongside Dr. Isabelle Malhame, assistant professor of medicine at McGill University and Dr. Maria Ospina, associate professor in the department of public health sciences at Queen’s University, that aims to conceptualize maternal morbidity through the lens of a diverse, global group of individuals with pregnancy experience.
