Dr. Rohan D’Souza shares pregnancy research at conference and colleges in India
Dr. Rohan D’Souza kicked-off the new year with a series of engagements in India centered around pregnancy research.
Dr. D’Souza attended the 65th annual All-India Conference of Obstetrics & Gynecology (AICOG) in Kolkata, where he presented two talks focused on shoulder dystocia and antihypertensive medications in pregnancy. AICOG is the largest medical conference in India; this year, over 9000 women’s health researchers and specialists from across the globe attended the conference.
While at the conference, Dr. D’Souza received the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) Achiever Award for his outstanding contributions to women’s health.
Dr. D’Souza visited the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research in Pondicherry, where he presented eight lectures on a variety of topics, including optimizing outcomes in pregnant women with obesity and the management of anticoagulation in pregnant individuals with mechanical heart valves. Dr. D’Souza also led a discussion focused on educational and career opportunities within the Obs/Gyn field in Canada.
To close out the trip, Dr. D’Souza gave a guest lecture at the Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital in Pondicherry. The lecture focused on the importance of centering patients within obstetrics and gynecology research and incorporating the values and preferences of pregnant individuals into clinical decision-making.
Dr. D’Souza says the trip provided a valuable opportunity to engage with India’s outstanding leaders in pregnancy research and care.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to build relationships with the international Obs/Gyn research community and explore the potential for collaboration between our researchers and students at McMaster and those across India and the world,” says Dr. D’Souza.
